Easternwell Chinese Medicine is located at 18 Wyndham Street North in downtown Guelph, Ontario since 2007. The history of the building dates back to 1858-59, when the block of buildings at #16-20 Wyndham Street were built for George Elliott, Guelph’s fourth mayor in 1858. He moved his extensive grocery business from Market Square to #18, the central unit of this block. Later #18 was operated by G. and A. Hadden, and this segment remained as a grocery store until early 1900’s when it became D. R. Rowen’s Wholesale Boots, Shoes and Rubbers [1]. In 1921 the location was home to Liggett’s Drug Store, and remained there until 1935. McKee’s Drug Store Limited (which would later become an IDA Pharmacy) was an essential business in downtown Guelph for 50 years, from 1935-1985. In 1986, #18 was renovated into a grocery store once again, this time as the Oriental Market [2]. In 2007, Dr. Ted Hsu purchased the building at 18 Wyndham Street and renovated the first floor interior for clinic use, as Easternwell Chinese Medicine. In May 2021, ownership of the clinic was transferred to Lubeina Sangalang (R.Ac), who had been working at Easternwell since 2016. She continues to provide TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) based treatments to the local community.
